the kingdom starts small, unnoticeable - 32nd week thursday 2018
Where is the kingdom of God? Why did Jesus say it cannot be observed? Because it starts small, it spreads quietly, sometimes unnoticed, many times unrecognized, but it is there. It starts from the goodness of your heart - in the sacrifices offered quietly in your homes; in the patience extended in your classrooms and work places; in the kind word we say to each other; in the care we extend to another in streets and in buses; in the concern we show to the people we meet, even to the people we do not know. The kingdom of God is there. We do not have to look for it elsewhere.
Many times, we have this idea that the kingdom of God is an over powerful kingdom the rules the world. Or to build God’s kingdom we have to build hospitals and orphanages and become like Mother Teresa. Some of us probably will be called to that kind of mission. But the Lord is telling us that the kingdom is in the ordinary – the kingdom is there in our parish hall when as a volunteer we teach catechism, it grows quietly in your service to our parish as EMs or readers or Monday cleaners or even in washing the coffee pot on Sunday meetings. In our own little way by living our day to day life and responsibilities, we are slowly building up the kingdom of God.
