the spirit at work in our lives - 28th week saturday

What kind of sin is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit which Jesus said is an unforgivable sin?  There has been a lot of commentaries on this.  Allow me to simplify them.  The sin against the Holy Spirit is a refusal to believe that the Holy Spirit is at work in our lives.

It is evidenced by Pharisees who seem so stubborn and obstinate in their refusal to believe in Jesus.  Everything that Jesus said and did were wrong and even the good that Jesus did was good coming from the devil.  You see when one is no longer open to the truth, when one refuses to be taught, when one refuses to listen anymore and refuses to be guided, then one places oneself beyond salvation, beyond the reach of God.
Another evidence of the refusal to believe that the Holy Spirit is at work in our lives is a life full of anxieties, a life full of worries, a lot of mistrust, a lot of fears.  If we believe that the Holy Spirit is at work in our lives then there is no reason to doubt the Lord and his ability to take care of us.
So what is the sin against the Holy Spirit – it is a refusal to believe that the Holy Spirit is at work in us, in our lives, in our parish community and in the church.  When we are not sensitive to the work of the Holy Spirit in each one of us, in our daily lives, we are making ourselves unreachable to Jesus. That is the meaning of sin which cannot be forgiven – it is us who make ourselves unforgivable.
