psalm 105,seeking God wednesday 1st week
Today we read psalm 105,
our responsorial psalm today. The second
stanza of our psalm enjoins us to look for the Lord and to seek to serve
him. To look and to seek. Do we need to look for God? The answer is no and yes. No, because God is omnipresent – God is
everywhere and it means that he is always with us. No, also because Jesus Christ said that he will be
with us even till the end of time. Jesus
promised that he will never leave us alone, that he will never leave us orphans. It is in this sense that we do not need to
seek him.
But we also need to seek
him because there are times in our lives, and these times are many, when his
presence is not manifested, that is, his power, his love, his care, his guidance
and direction become unperceived by the eyes of our hearts. Unperceived because probably they are not
valuable to us, they are not beautiful, they are not loving.
In the Eucharist we are
always greeted with the phrase "the Lord be with you." It is not a statement of fact but a
wish. It is a wish because the Lord be
with you means – may you see the Lord more clearly in your day to day life, may
you perceive his loving and caring presence everyday of your life, may you see
him in your joys and in your sadness, may you perceive his presence in the good
that you do and even in your mistakes and in your lapses. May you see God in your day to day
experience, may you see God's footprints as you look back into your life and
search for his loving, caring and directing presence.
It is in this sense that
we must seek the Lord.
Even Jesus needs the time
to seek his Father. He prayed, probably
in praying he searched his memory, he recalled his experiences – experiences of
God's presence in his day to day life.
At the same time Jesus sought the Father in his plans, in the events of
his life and in his future actions. So like
Jesus always seek the Lord. Make it
always a habit to seek the Lord at all times.
