my Father is at work - 4th week lent Wednesday

Today we are made to see the oneness of Jesus and the Father. When he was accused of violating the Sabbath Jesus insisted saying, My Father is at work so I am also at work. In the same gospel passage Jesus also said, the Son cannot do anything on his own,but only what he sees the Father doing;for what he does, the Son will do also.

In this gospel passage we are made to see  that Jesus is the visible image of the Father.  If we want to know the Father then there is no other way but to know Jesus. If we want to draw near to the Father, then there is no way but to draw near to Jesus.  Jesus is the visible face of the Father.  Everything we need to know about God the Father we can now know through Jesus.  To refuse to honor the son is therefore a refusal to honor the Father.  Jesus therefore is our only way to God.  There is no other way.

As we go deeper into lent let us be conscious of this offer of relationship with Jesus.  There can be no real conversion when there is no real relationship and friendship with Jesus.  We may go to the practices of lent or even fulfil the demands of the sacraments but when there is no relationship with Jesus nothing is sustained and nothing will last.
