healing and caring from a distance - 4th week lent Monday
In our gospel today Jesus heals from a distance. He simply told the royal official that his son is healed, without touching him, without drawing near to him, without being there. And so it happened, that his son was healed as attested by his slaves at exactly the same time when Jesus said your son is healed.
There are healings, there can be expressions of love and care, and there are ways of being there for someone, even from a distance. Nothing of course can replace physical presence. But presences can be spiritual too. We can begin by remembering people in our prayers, in our daily masses, in our sacrifices, in our offerings. In the same way that we can be angry from a distance, we can also begin forgiving from a distance.
Caring can be virtual too. Our OFW’s have found creative ways and means of being there for their family. It is however sad that many times communication revolves around what I need, what I want instead of just simply being there for each other.
There are circumstances in life that keep us far apart. But Jesus is showing us that distance is not a reason to stop caring and loving each other.
