what matters is what God wants . . . 3rd week wednesday
There
are several things we can learn from our first reading, from the 2nd Book of
Samuel.
First,
what God wants from us may be different from what we want. What we want may be noble, heroic, good,
super good. But it does not follow that
this is what God really wants from us.
David wanted to build a house for God, a temple. It was noble, it was admirable, it was even a
beautiful idea. But that was not what
God wanted. In life, what matters for us
is what God wants.
Second,
David wanted to build a house for God, a temple. But God revealed to Nathan his prophet that
instead of David building God a house, God will build a house, a dynasty, God
will build the house of David and this house will stand forever. From this promise comes the messianic hope –
the son of David is the holder of the promise and Jesus will be called son of
David. Many times in our life it is not
what we do to God that really makes the difference. Rather it is what God does to us. Many times, the 4th year
especially would complain about what they had to undergo in their academics at
this point in time, the hardships that they had to undergo, the humiliation
even that they had to go through. What
you become because of what you have to go through can be more important than
the thesis you will produce. God is
doing something in your life. It is not
only what you do, it is what God does to you that is more important.
Think
about these.
