asking for wisdom - 4th week saturday

If you are asked by God to ask for anything that you want, what would you ask?  Solomon was asked by God and instead of asking for wealth and riches, instead of asking for the life of his enemies, and instead of asking for a long life, Solomon asked God for the gift of wisdom.  He prayed to God saying, "Give your servant, therefore, an understanding heart to judge your people and to distinguish right from wrong." For this request God said to Solomon, "I give you a heart so wise and understanding that there has never been anyone like you up to now, and after you there will come no one to equal you."

That is how Solomon came to be renowned for his Wisdom so much so that people and rulers from far and wide would come to listen to the wisdom of Solomon.
What is wisdom?  Wisdom helps us to do the right thing using our knowledge, understanding and even our common sense and insight into things.  You are going home.  What are you going to do at home – just sleep all day, watch television all day, help your parents, meet your friends.  Wisdom helps you to decide rightly so that whatever you do will bring the greatest good to yourself and to others.
The grade 10 need wisdom to choose correctly whether to continue here in the seminary or to look for another school.
The bible says reverence to the Lord is the beginning of wisdom – when you have deep respect for God, when you follow his commands, when you listen to his directions for you that the bible says is the beginning of wisdom.  In other words it is important to pray, to listen to your spiritual director, to ask God to guide you in your decisions.
SO ask for the gift of wisdom so that you can decide rightly.
