recovering empathy through fasting

TDo you why I was in a way insisting that we fast? Fasting if you remember what I told you last Wednesday helps us to develop empathy. It helps us to experience what others feel. It helps us recover our sensitivity to others.
We have a big problem with bullying. It’s not just our problem, a problem uniquely ours but it is a problem all over the world especially in westernized countries. Probably it is something coming from the violence of television or the games we play in the computer.


One of the incapacity of a bully that makes him capable of hurting other people is the lack of empathy or the lack of the ability to feel what others feel. That’s the problem with the bully - a bully does not feel what his victims feel.
For most of us however it is not really bullying but most often we have this problem of not knowing when to stop teasing and making fun of people. Most often it is not really a problem of bullying but more of knowing whether the insult or what I say about people are already hurting them or not. More often it’s not really bullying but when to decide that a joke is only a joke or a joke already maligns and humiliates people. Empathy is the capacity to feel what other people feel.
Fasting helps us recover empathy. Fasting helps us recover sensitivity. Fasting can help us grow in empathy.
