everything is interim

What for me is the meaning of the coming of Jesus? What does it mean to me? Only one thing - all these things that we see, hear, feel and do will come to pass. Everything is interim. That is the meaning of the coming of Jesus. Everything is interim. The church is temporary, and so is the liturgy and so is the diocese, the parish and come to think of it even our temptations. These are temporary. Everything will come to an end. That for me is the meaning of the second coming of Jesus. Everything that we do, we do temporarily; we do for the meantime that we are waiting for him.

These interim instruments have only one intent and that is to glorify God so that as we do we will be more prepared for his coming.
Therefore in the final analysis think about this – does your work, do your activities which are temporary instruments, make you a better person or not? Do your possessions make you better prepared for the coming of our Lord? If not ,then wouldn’t it be better to prepare for his coming with something else? Wouldn’t it be better to find a more conducive place, a more meaningful work, a more encouraging companion who can help me glorify God?
In this perspective you will understand why Jesus insisted on cutting off any part of ourselves that would lead us to sin. In this perspective you will better understand why Jesus insisted on detachment, even detachment from parents, land, treasure and even self. Because everything should be seen as a temporary instrument that would pass away, a temporary instrument whose only purpose is to make us glorify God all the more.
If this parish is the source of our sinfulness, then why insist in being here? If my work becomes an occasion for sin, if my friendship becomes the cause that would further alienate me from God, wouldn’t it be better to be elsewhere?
Put things in this perspective and you will see the difference in our attitude, the difference in the way we will make our road maps; you will see the difference in the way you decide for life. Learn to look at things from the perspective of the second coming.
