where your heart is

The intensity of passion which we have for a hobby like music or sports is the same intensity of passion that the saints used in order to preach the gospel all over the world. The acumen and sharpness of mind of a scientist or a mathematician or a businessman, is the same acumen and sharpness of mind used by the saints to establish congregations and religious activities which continue to this day. The intense love between lovers that would open their eyes to the goodness of each other, is the same intense love which drove the saints to serve the poor and the needy.

My point is, we are made of the same stuff. It is just a question of the object of attention. We are made of the same energy. It is just a question of focus - where that energy is focused. This is the point of our gospel. We can be so intense in our resolve to get what we want in business, so also we can be so intent in our resolve to get what we want for our souls. We can be so passionate in our study of astronomy and physics, so also we can divert or use the same passion in our study of the bible as the word of God. It is always a question of focus and object. It is not a question of disposition and genetic composition that makes a saint or makes a person holy. It is, in all intent, a question as to where your heart is. Where your heart is, is the million dollar question, because it is the point which explains why one person can and why another person cannot.
