o mother!!!
Today I would like to reflect on one of the most wonderful, beautiful and marvelous creature God has ever thought of creating – MOTHERS! There is something about them that could not just be replaced when they are gone – they are irreplaceable, unique and even immortal, for as they say “mothers don’t die they just fade away,” because we know, even if one does not want to acknowledge it, there is always something of our mothers in us which we bring with us through life. It may be our way of loving, our taste, an attitude, a certain manner of doing thing and perhaps a way of cleaning, cooking and arranging the house. A mother’s influence can just be overwhelming for as they say in times past – “the hand the rocks the cradle is the hand that rules the world.”
Our mothers are one of a kind, incomparable and unique. They are unlike anybody in the world. They have their own way of reasoning. They even have their own rules for logic. My mother was once nagging my brother about his health because of the way he gulps down food after food. She was almost angry. However, when my brother was about to leave for his home after eating supper, my mother came running towards the car bringing with her, salad, dinuguan, lechon and everything else she could find on the table worth sending to my brother to eat. Indeed the heart and love of a mother have reasons which reason itself could not understand nor explain.
Nobody can compete with a mother, not even a wife or a husband, in seeing and recognizing the beautiful things in all of us. Mothers always do and can be so proud of what they see. She would always be there to tell everybody that you are the brightest in class, the best player, the prettiest girl, or just simply the best! However, one gets confused why she treats you as if you are the stupidest individual because every time you ride a car she would always remind you not to put your arms outside the car window.
Well, their love is so unconditional they would always be there even if the whole world abandons you. And mothers are like that – they are loyal and their love never fades. It is no wonder that we have expressions like – “a mother’s care,” or “a mother’s love,” or in its deepest expression of loyalty, “a face only a mother can love.”
I believe all of you who have mothers can connect with what I am saying. There was a time in our teenage years when we may have said we don’t want them or do anything with them. But just the same, teenage girls continue to put make-up the way their mothers did, and teenage boys choose things the way mother would have chosen, because deep inside we would always long for her.
It is these memories of the uniqueness of a mother’s love and loyalty that make this day wonderful and even sentimental.
Let us remember that the love of God is described as a mother’s love – a love that knows no limits, a love that comforts and consoles, a love that will always be there no matter what. And I believe God created mothers to remind us always of Himself and to challenge us to the kind of loving we must all have.
Happy Mother’s Day!
